Introduction
Artshell provides you with a comprehensive analytics system to monitor the performance of your emails and newsletters. Gain insights into who received, opened, and clicked on links within your communications, as well as track recipients who have unsubscribed from your list. With Artshell, you can also download an Excel file of your analytics to delve deeper into each newsletter's data and share the results with your team.
To ensure accurate analysis, it's crucial to keep your contacts section updated and well-organized, paying attention when adding new email addresses.
To view the analytics, select the email of interest and click on Analytics at the top.
Within the analytics interface, you'll find the following sections:
- Activity
- Tags
- Opened
- Most opened
Let’s look at each in detail.
Activity
This section provides an overview of your email performance, divided into three categories.
Key metrics
- Delivered emails: number and percentage (based on total recipients) of emails successfully delivered.
- Opened emails: number and percentage of recipients who opened the email.
- Opened links: number and percentage of recipients who clicked at least one link within the email.
Errors
This section highlights also any issues in email delivery. There are two types of errors:
-
-
Syntax errors: These are email addresses with formatting mistakes that prevent the message from being sent. They are indicated by the symbol in each email.
-
Bounced errors: These emails are technically correct but failed to deliver due to temporary or permanent issues with the recipient's server. Bounced addresses are marked with a status in the contact profile and appear in the analytics only the first time the issue occurs. To learn more about contact status, see the dedicated article.
Note: Artshell does not send emails to addresses previously marked as bounced.
If an address has already triggered a bounce error, the email will not be sent again, and no new error will be displayed.
-
Syntax errors: These are email addresses with formatting mistakes that prevent the message from being sent. They are indicated by the symbol in each email.
The red counter shows the number of syntax errors among your recipients. Click Errors to view the total number of errors (syntax + bounced), shown under the name Recipients, and correct the misspelled ones in the contact profile.
Unsubscribed
This metric shows how many people have unsubscribed from your newsletter (orange counter).
Click Unsubscribed , to view details about the email addresses that opted out.
When a recipient unsubscribes, their contact profile is also updated with a status next to the email address.
If the Unsubscribed and Errors sections are not visible in the Activity tab, it means your email was delivered without issues and no recipients have unsubscribed.
Tag
This section shows how your tagged groups of recipients interacted with your email.
For each tag, you’ll see:
- How many recipients received the email.
- How many opened it.
- How many clicked on links.
You can filter the data using the dropdown menu, as shown in the image below.
Opened
This section shows when your emails were delivered, opened, and when recipients clicked on any links.
You can filter the time period by clicking All time and selecting dates from the calendar.
Most opened
This section ranks your recipients based on how many times they opened the email. For each contact, you’ll see:
- The date and time the email was read or received.
- The number of times it was opened (shown by a number next to the two blue checkmarks).
- Which links were clicked (displayed with a number and the icon next to each link).
Click View all to filter by name or email address if you're looking for a specific contact.
To better understand how Most Opens works, the image below shows a sample analytics page with mock data. As you can see, the email was opened 126 times (indicated by the number next to the two blue checkmarks) by Marco Rossi (marco@studioferrucci.com), but no links were clicked.
Meanwhile, Sofia Bianchi (sofia.bianchi@ateliercontemporaneo.it) opened the email 81 times. She clicked the first link twice (shown by the number 2 next to the icon) and the second link once (the icon appears without a number, indicating a single click).
Download analytics
Artshell allows you to download a report of the analytics related to each newsletter in Excel format. This feature enables you to monitor the performance of your communications, providing useful data to evaluate open rates, clicks, and other key metrics.
To download the report, click the Download Excel button at the top right of the Analytics page.
The Excel file includes the following fields:
Recipient:
- Email, first name, last name, and company

Where can I find the analytics export files?
All export files are accessible from the Export section, which you can reach by clicking the @ icon from the left-hand side menu. To view only the files related to analytics, use the filter in the top right and select Excel - Newsletter Analytics.
Selecting an analytic file, you can use the icons at the top to:
- : share the link to the Excel file.
- : download the Excel file to your computer.
- : rename the file, undo its expiration, or delete it.
The other fields provide additional information about the file, such as the creation date, how many elements your file contains (i.e., how many rows are present in the Excel – each row corresponds to an email address), its size, and the expiration date.
