Organize artists using tags and lists


Introduction

Artshell provides two essential tools for organizing and managing your records: the Tags and Lists.

In this article, we'll show you how to create, add, or remove one or more tags from your artists and how to organize them into manual or automatic lists for more efficient and personalized management.

Manage tags

You can use tags to categorize and organize artists, as well as find them easily using the search bar.

Note

Some of the procedures described below use the Manage panel. After selecting one or more artists, the panel automatically appears on the right. If it does not display after selection, click the three-dot icon top right.


Create a new tag

You can create a new tag from an artist's " record " page or from the  Managepanel.

From the artist's record

  1. Select an artist, then click the pencil icon Tap here to enter mode edit.
  2. In the Add a tag field, type the name of the new tag.
  3. Press ENTER on the keyboard.
  4. Click Save at the top to confirm.

From the Manage panel

This method is recommended if you want to assign the new tag to multiple artists at once.

  1. Select artists using theicon: select .
  2. In the panel Manage When you see it appear on the right, click Add tag. If the panel doesn't appear (for example, because your screen is too small), click the three-dot icon top right.
  3. Click + Create tag.

  4. Enter the tag you want to create in the designated field and then click Create tag. Click Cancel to go back.

  5. Click the "Add " button in the lower right corner to apply the tag you created to the selected artists.

Note

The number in parentheses next to each tag indicates how many artists it is assigned to.

Tip

Before creating a new tag, use the search bar to make sure there isn't already one with the same or a similar name.

Add an existing tag

Existing tags can be added to an artist in two ways: directly from the artist'record r from the Manage panel .

  1. Select the artists using the select icon .
  2. In the panel Manage Click on the icon that appears on the right Add tag If the panel does not appear (for example, because your screen is too small), click the icon top right.
  3. Search for the tag using the search bar.
  4. Check the box next to the tag to select it.
  5. Click "Add " in the lower-right corner to apply the tag to the selected artists.


Remove a tag

You can remove a tag from a single artist's " record " or from multiple artists at once.


From the artist's record

  1. Select an artist, then click the pencil icon Tap here to enter mode edit.
  2. Click the X icon next to the tag you want to delete to remove it.
  3. Click Save at the top to confirm.

From the Manage panel

  1. Select artists using the icon select .
  2. In the panel Manage Click on the icon that appears on the right Remove tag If the panel doesn't appear (for example, because your screen is too small), click the three-dot icon top right.
  3. Use the search bar to find the tag you want to remove, then check the box next to the tag to select it (you can also remove multiple tags at once).
  4. Click Remove in the bottom right corner to remove the tag.

Note

The list shows only the tags associated with the selected artists.

Important

To permanently remove a tag that is no longer in use, you must delete it from all the records s to which it has been applied. For complete instructions, see the article How to Permanently Delete a Tag That Is No Longer in Use.


Manage lists

With Artshell, you can organize and group artists into an unlimited number of lists.

There are two types of lists:

  • Manuals that you update manually.
  • Automatic, which update automatically based on the specified criteria.

To view all the playlists you've created, click the " Artists " section at the top left.



Manual lists

Manual lists remain unchanged until you edit them.

Create a manual list

  1. Select artists using the icon selection .
  2. In the panel Manage When you see it appear on the right, click Add to list If the panel doesn't appear (for example, because your screen is too small), click the three-dot icon top right.
  3. Since the playlist you want to add artists to hasn't been created yet, click + Create Playlist.
  4. Enter the name of the list you want to create in the designated field and click Create list. Click Cancel to cancel the operation.
  5. Click the "Add " button in the lower-right corner to add the selected artists to the list you just created.

Add artists to a manual playlist

  1. Select artists using the icon selection .
  2. In the Manage panel that appears on the right, click Add to list.
  3. Use the search bar to find the playlist you want to add the artists to, then check the box next to the playlist to select it.
  4. Click the "Add " button in the lower right corner to add the artists to the selected list.

Note

The number in parentheses next to each list indicates how many artists it contains.

Remove artists from a manual list

  1. Select artists using the icon selection .
  2. In the Manage panel that appears on the right, click Remove from list.
  3. Use the search bar to find the list from which you want to remove the artists, then check the box next to the list to select it.
  4. Click the button Remove Click the bottom-right corner to remove artists from the selected list.


Automatic lists

Automatic lists update on their own: when an artist meets the list's criteria, they are automatically added, and when they no longer meet them, they are removed.


Create an automatic list

  1. Use the search bar in the Artists section to set one or more search criteria.
  2. Press ENTER.
  3. Click the icon by Save search.
  4. Enter the name of the list.
    5. 5. Finally, click Save list

Tip

Include the criteria you used to create the new automatic list in its name. This will help you identify it quickly in the future. For example, a name for the list created in the previous image could be: " Emerging Artists in London - tag 'emerging' + in:Place of Birth 'London'".

Add artists to an automatic list

To include an artist in an automatic playlist, make sure they meet the criteria you set when creating the playlist. The artist will be added automatically as soon as they meet those requirements.

Remove artists from an automatic list

Similarly, you cannot manually remove an artist from an automatic list. Artists are automatically removed from automatic lists when they no longer meet the defined criteria.



Sort the lists

You can change the order of the lists at any time.

  1. Click the " Artists " section at the top left.
  2. Hover the cursor over a list until the drag icon appears.
  3. Drag the list up or down to place it wherever you like.
