Introduction
This article guides you through all the steps needed to add an artist from scratch, edit or delete an existing one. Here you can also find the explanations of the fields available you can use to detail your artists in Artshell.

Add an artist
Step 1: Create a new card
Click the icon in the top right corner to open the artist card — a panel that appears on the right side of the screen, where you can enter the artist's details.
Note: You don't need to fill in all the fields in the artist card. You can fill in only the fields that are relevant to you, and add more details later as needed.
Step 2: Fill in the fields
Below is a list of all the fields available in the artist card.
Click each section to expand and view more details:
First Name, Last Name, Pseudonym
enter the artist's first name, last name, and pseudonym (if any).
Add tag
the Tag field allows you to create labels that help describe and group your artists. Click here to read the dedicated article on Tags.
Place and Date of Birth / Death
use this field to enter the artist’s place and date of birth, and, if applicable, the place and date of death.
Period
indicate the artist’s period of activity.
Movement and Nationality
add more specific details about the artistic movement the artist is associated with, and their nationality.
Type of Artist: enter details about the artist's profession or specialty (e.g., painter, sculptor, photographer).
School or movement: here, you can choose the school or movement from the drop-down menu.
Description: add any relevant information about the school or movement selected.
Nationality: here, you can choose the artist's nationality from the drop-down menu.
Description: this field allows you to enter more information about the nationality.
Add document
here, you can upload all documents related to the artist.
Step 3: Save
Once you’ve entered all the necessary information, click Save at the top left of the artist card.
Note: If you have a subscription with an Artshell Artist plan, you can create only one artist profile. Once you’ve created and saved the first artist, the icon for adding new artists will disappear. You can still edit the artist profile you created. If you need to add more artists, click here to get in touch with our Sales team.
Edit an artist
To edit an artist you’ve already created:
- Select the artist you want to edit to open the card.
- Click the icon to open edit mode and make your changes.
Delete an artist
Important: The delete function is permanent. Deleted artist tabs cannot be recovered. To prevent accidental deletion, Artshell includes an extra confirmation step.
To delete an artist:
- Select the artist you want to delete.
- Click the icon.
- Select Delete.
- To confirm the permanent deletion, click Delete. If you have selected the wrong artist by mistake, click Cancel.
