Introduction
This article introduces the key elements of the Artshell Dashboard, including its navigation and search tools. Learn the meaning of the main menu icons and how to use search operators to combine terms, helping you quickly find the information you need.
The Artshell Dashboard
Artshell's menus are designed to provide intuitive and seamless navigation.
- The horizontal menu at the top lets you quickly move between the main sections of the software: Artworks, Artists, Contacts, and Events.
- The vertical menu on the left gives you access to the Home page, additional features (such as Email, Insights, and Export history), Apps, and general Settings.
Both menus include clear labels and intuitive icons to help you navigate effectively:
Top Menu (Horizontal):
| Artists | This section groups all the artists in your Artshell account. Visit the guide section dedicated to Artists. |
| Artworks | This is the section you land on when entering Artshell. Here you will find all the artworks in your Artshell account. Visit the guide section dedicated to Artwork. |
| Contacts | This section groups all the contacts in your Artshell account. Visit the guide section dedicated to Contacts. |
| Events | This section is dedicated to events, here you can add or create new events and exhibitions. Visit the guide section dedicated to Events. |

Search bar: click the magnifying glass icon to search within each section. |

Search bar
Artshell offers an advanced search system that enables you to find words across the Artworks, Contacts, Artists, and Events sections, as well as within attached documents. You can perform searches either in full-text mode or by using search operators.
Start your Search
Click the icon at the top to open the dropdown menu of available operators, or simply type the word you wish to search for. Once ready, press ENTER on the keyboard to view the results.
Below is an overview of the searches you can perform in each section. For further guidance, click Search tips within each area.
Search in the Artists Section
Refine your artist searches using:
- #tag – filter by assigned tags.
- in: – limit your search to a specific field (e.g. nationality, movement). After selecting in: , specify the field you want.
- empty: – search for fields that are blank.
- full: – search for fields that contain data.
Search in the Artworks Section
Enhance your searches with:
- #tag ,@Artist , or Contact – filter by associated metadata.
- $ – find shared artworks within your network by specifying a user or contact.
- in: – search within specific fields (e.g. collection or location). After selecting in: , specify the field you want.
- is: / isnot: – find or exclude checkbox/dropdown values.
- empty: / full: – search for blank or completed fields.
Search in the Contacts Section
Optimize your contact searches with:
- #tag – filter by assigned tags.
- in: – search within specific fields (e.g. company or contact type). After selecting in: , specify the field you want.
- is: / isnot: – find or exclude checkbox/dropdown values.
- empty: / full: – search for blank or completed fields.
Search in the Events Section
Improve your event searches using:
- #tag ,@Artist , or Contact – filter by associated metadata.
- $ – find shared artworks within your network by specifying a user or contact.
- in: – search within specific fields (e.g. curator or title). After selecting in: , specify the field you want.
- empty: / full: – search for blank or completed fields.
Advanced Search Syntax
In addition to the operators, you can use search syntax to further refine results:
The “” (Quotation marks): search for exact phrases. Example "Pablo Picasso".
The .. (Double dots): search within a numerical range. Example: "1950..1970"
The - (Hyphen): exclude terms. Example: modern - surrealism (find modern works excluding surrealism)
OR : by default, all searches in Artshell follow the AND logic. You can use the OR function to combine one or more values with your search. Example: tag1 OR tag2.
() (Parentheses): group terms to create complex queries. Example: (in:title "portrait") OR (in:tag #female).
